In honor of my NY Yankees making it back to the World Series this year I decided to put up a bit of family Yankee history. This photo of my father (right)and the Yankee Clipper, Joe Dimaggio (my father's idol) was taken at a place called Nicky Blair's Carnival in NYC the summer of 1946. The pic was in our family ever since, and 50 years later in 1996 I took my father to a baseball memorabilia signing at Trump's Atlantic City casino to see Dimaggio and get the photo signed. After paying the $175 fee we stood in line while Joe signed the same crap over and over again; cards, ball, bats, etc. My father handed hin the photo, still in the official nightclub folder. Dimaggio looked at the photo intently for a few seconds, then at my father and said "Is this you?" My father nodded and Dimaggio looked back at the pic and replied "Boy! We were young, huh?" and called my father around the table (something that was NOT done) to take a photo with him and the picture. We ended up with a picture of my father and Joe Dimaggio holding a picture of my father and Joe Dimaggio taken 50 years earlier! Great day all around!
BTW, that's not a small dog, that's my father's wolf paw in the pic! lol Happy Halloween also, I guess!
this is awesome Joe. How times have changed! I cannot have a favorite player anymore as you're sure to be disappointed at some point. I'm a team guy only, which is kinda sad in some ways.
Free agency has destroyed the sport, which is why I respect guys like Mattingly, Jeter, Rivera, et al. They coulda gone anywhere but chose to stay where they were. O'Neill took a pay cut to stay with the Yankees. His wife said "We have all the money we'll ever need. Why not just be happy where you are?" THAT'S a great wife!!!
the other great Mrs. O'Neill story I heard was after one of his bi-weekly meltdowns she called the stadium and some how convinced whomever to get patched to the dugout (or some phone on the field). She spoke to Joe Torre, and asked him to tell her husband "that he was embarrassing her and the kids, and that he would be sleeping on the couch until he could control his inner four year old."
What an awesome picture and cool bit of history for your family! So what about the wolf paw your Dad is holding?
My mom talked about her Dad taking her to baseball games in Dubuque IA every Saturday afternoon when she was a kid. Years later before Alzheimer's set in the whole family took her to see the Orioles at Camden Yard. It was cool to see my 80 year old mom transported to 10 again... nothing escaped her notice that day!

Daily Literature Deviations is a group that is dedicated to bringing literature to the forefront of the deviantArt community. We attempt to accomplish this by daily featuring Literature artists from around the community that deserve the recognition, but are not getting it.
Each day we will feature 5 deviations from the Literature categories in a News Article. In order to support the artists that we feature, we ask that you the news article as well as check out the individual pieces. We understand that each day you may not be able to check out each and every one of the pieces, everyone has their own things going on. We just ask that you make an attempt to help support the growing Literature community.
The overall theme of this contest is 'Life', but most importantly, your biggest reason why you love life. Too frequently are we met with complaints, arguments, sadness... and more in between, so we would like you to portray something a little bit more upbeat, happy; something that makes you smile and feel warm, inside.
So, take a photograph of something that makes you giddy with joy, something that you enjoy, something that you may take for granted. Perhaps you can ask yourself what things you love in life, or what things you love about life, it's all up to you in how you interpret and portray this theme!
