Going for a 3D effect on a cover that will be printed horizontally, like movie screen. Forced perspective and cropping in very tightly, especially on the head, gives a feeling dimensionality and size. LOOK OUT!!!!

Note; I originally had a stream of blood arcing across the image from his sword on the back swing. I rethought it as too graphic and left it out of the final piece.

I would have kept the stream of blood. I mean seriously have you seen the other graphic stuff they have on deviantart. i say put it in the artwork.

It has nothing to do with what's on Devianart. It's about what was appropriate for a comic book cover.

The stream of blood would have made for a very visceral and graphic image indeed, although I can see why you left it out. Knowing when to censor oneself is an important thing I learned in college. =p

Excellent, as always. Although, I'd might have left a drop or two of blood in anyway. ;P

OUTSTANDING work! This is very, very close to my visualization of John Carter (except
I always picture "closely cropped hair"). Really well done within all of those parameters/specifications!
