WARLORD OF MARS No. 17 by JoeJusko WARLORD OF MARS No. 17 by JoeJusko
Been really busy lately but thought I'd take a few minutes to drop the newest cover here. May be my favorite so far as I think it really captures the flavor and excitement of the series. I love painting action scenes!

Great energy to the figures/composition and I love the jewel tones. This is the kind of imagery that comes to my mind when I think Barsoom.

Great! Love the dynamism of the character popping out from the right and the building in the background (I think if the building wasn't there, it would feel a little "flat")

Very nice! This more in keeping with the "artistic" vision of John Carter which imo is sadly lost from the trailers I seen thus far but I digress....

That thing is pure nightmare fuel :wow: I love the colors, especially the background. I would have to buy this issue just based on wanting to see how the hell he escapes this situation on the cover. :D

On a personal note I think if the movie Cliffhanger had a scene like this it would have won the oscar for best picture ever.

Truth be told, I doubt this happens in the book. LOL These covers are done SO far in advance.

Btw did you see the new trailer for the John Carter movie? It looks like it could be pretty good. :)

I was thinking... If JC was on a planet with low gravity, while he would be super strong compared to the inhabitants, he would still need to keep himself in shape.

He would need to lift weights the size of boulders!

Looks GREAT! It does have the feel of the series! The look has aspects of some of the different paperback illustrations of different releases of the series. John Carter in the books was described as having "close cropped hair" and that's how I've always imagined him. Reading about these "fighting men of Mars", I always pictured them looking much like our fighting men [with regulation haircuts and in "top shape"]. Dejah Thois has always been a healthy beauty with long, thick, raven-hair. These structures and foreign designs look as they should. So very well done!

That wouldn't work with the background elements. The design is meant to be vertical. You shouldn't overuse the Dutch Angle simply as a gimmick.

not as a gimmick but as the amplifier for the story telling.
But you right, the format is established
