Cover to the first issue of Dynamite Comics 12 issue adaptation of Edgar Rice Burroughs "John Carter, Warlord of Mars" series of novels. I LOVE this property and have wanted to revisit it ever since I painted the trading cards back in 1995. I'll be doing covers for all 12 issues.
Doing a posthumous Frazetta or Williamson tribute piece seemed a bit cliched, but I thought incorporating something of them into the first cover was more than appropriate.
i've known of warlord of mars since i was a kid, never read the comics though. the movied ws of the hook and the fully painted art images are far better than the comic series.
Love the original Edgar Rice Burroughs books and loving the comic books (and the cover artwork of course) too. Would put them on par with the art by Frazetta, Whelan et al. Now why can't the movie posters have artwork like this?
i love edgar rice burroughs' work, and i love your interpretation and style. I just found all but one book of the John Carter series at my local library, and bought them for a dime or nickle a piece.
The ones I read were from the 60's , but I remember seeing the ones you have in the book store and wishing I could replace my collection . If I remember correctly the cover art was pretty nice too .
