Artist's Comments

Here's the entire image with the Vampi figure yet to be painted. I can tell already that as expected there will be a lot of value adjustments to the surrounding elements after she's painted in. It's impossible to get them totally accurate without the main figure there, but they give me a guide as to value control on Vampirella. They'll be a day of looking and tweaking after the main figure is painted. I'm happy with the balance of elements and colors, and while it's not really evident in the pic the slightly lighter values used throughout the background should make her pop out from everything else (fingers crossed). The art tape is there just to geve me an idea what it'll look like cropped and cleaned up.

Wow, this is really an amazing piece here Joe. I can see why you left vampy last to do. Such a diversity of colors! I really love it. Can't wait to see how you color vamp.

This almost reminds me of a 1960s-70s poster, painting. I think it might be the hairstyles and the almost "sci-fish" looking desert scene at the bottom. :)

[Frazetta and Boris would always come up with these outlandish sci-fi landscapes, like a moonbase with crazy shiny spires and glass bubble habitats.]

Wow!

Thanks for posting this one, Joe! I wonder how you're gonna make her stand with that hyper colorful background...

is it hard to change the values after the painting is initially finished ?

it will be interesting to see how you work that.
