Okay, just so we can avoid all of the "Charlie Sheen" yuks of the last post, yes, the male figure could have been a tad larger (but not by much). Let's just say he's an emissary of "The Midget Men of Mars", the lost John Carter novel.
Too bad they're wearing clothes... It would be a beautiful picture if not for that element that makes one say 'yeah, great picture, but this is not Burrough's Mars, where people are naked, and find clothes unseemly, so they certainly don't wear loincloths or bikinis...
I don't know, I think the guy looks in scale but the persepctive can make your brain think it isn't. I mean you're essentially looking down at the scene from an angle and he's in front of a giant couch/lounge thing on a pure white floor. It can sort of throw your sense of scale off a bit at first glance but not in an extreme way like comparing a Smurf to Voltron.
I absolutely love the marble effect on the couch/lounge thing and the setting itself is just amazing with all the details you crammed into it.
Actually I think the male figure looks awesome. Proportions seem right. Any larger and it would seem hulkish. Love the colouring, specially the way you worked around the flesh and the blue marble like texture.
As much as I love your Mars paintings, I really hope you’ll also be doing some covers for Dynamite’s LORD OF THE JUNGLE series. I was so blown away by your work on the Burroughs card set in the 90’s that I actually first learned to paint by making copies of some of the Tarzan pieces from it. I know you’ve done a few Tarzan commissions since but it’d be awesome to see you work on a whole new series.
