Beautiful image of Dejah Thoris, and I love the ancient carved stele behind her. Have you seen the once lost test footage of Bob Clampett's animated version of John Carter of Mars? It's pretty cool for an aborted project from 1936, especially since it was rejected by the studios. [link] Oh, I don't know if you have any interest or idea about Asylum Studio's Princess of Mars starring Antonio Sabato, Jr. and Traci Lords, but for sanity's sake avoid it at all costs. Just a wee warning from the Insane Scarab.
I have heard Iain Mccaig speak of john carter of mars.
Its a "cursed film" at this point, so he says, because: 3 Different studios have attempted to produce john carter of mars film yet all failed. So after 3 or 4 failed attempts Iain Mccaig with him friends made an animatic and attempting to make a feature, that has been doomed to never be completed by the movie gods.
So maybe in future we'll see a john carter of mars film.
Actually, the movie comes out on March 9, 2012 (to get it away from bigger summer movies), and is titled just "John Carter." Rumor has it that the poor performance of "Mars Needs Moms" has killed the use of Mars in the ERB movie adaptation. Because, y'know, that makes all kinds of sense.
So: generic title for a movie released in a dead zone. Yeah, THAT should help improve the box office performance...
Oh, wait, there's also this description from IMDb: "Civil War vet John Carter is transplanted to Mars, where he discovers a lush, wildly diverse planet."
Having more connections to Avatar is the least the film needs now... The deserts and canals were at least believable when ERB wrote the novels, before the Viking probes. It would make more sense if they said Barsoom was in another star system.
Im sorry but I think with Andrew Stanton the movie will be a disappointment. I grew up with edgar rice burrough's books, read all tarzans and scifi when I was like 11. And I don't see a Pixart directors producing an epic violent life feature.
At worst, it will be something like Disney's Tarzan... It shouldn't be too hard to make a sci-fi swashbuckler film based on the John Carter novels. Sure they're violent, but it will be easier to take away the racism since it's much more implied in the John Carter novels than in the Tarzan books.
I tend to give the Barsoomians some kind of cursory navel, some artifact from connection to the chorion while in the egg. That's just me. I think of the navel as being like the "you are here" point on a shopping mall map. I get disoriented without it.
Lovely balanced composition.
It occurs to me that, if this were a Corben image, that rock would be a geyser.
I almost weighed in with "the developing chicks have umbilical chords connected to the yolk sac, so they would have a navel!" However, upon further research (i.e. googling) I find the yolk sac and chord are absorbed into the body before hatching, so there's no scar from the severed chord mammals have ...
Stunning cover, btw! I've said it once but have to say again, Jusko covers are the No. 1 reason to buy these comics!!!
Yeah I heard rumors that dejah thoris is wearing "anicent greek" clothes in the film, not even close to the books. They're changing movie title "John carter of mars" to "john carter". What's up? I guess they don't want some people think this film link to Mars need moms.
