Al Williamson passed away this weekend. Al was one of the purest draftsmen comics has ever seen and is an artist that everyone should familiarize themselves with. From his EC Comics days, his Secret Agent Corrigan strip, Flash Gordon and Star Wars work as well as the superb inking in his later years over such industry giants as John Buscema and John Romita Jr. Al had always produced the highest quality work one could imagine and yet never made anyone feel inferior when they met him (although we all knew we were). All young artists should regard him as much of a standard as those of my generation did. As an artist and a man he is one tough act to follow. Posted above is my favorite Al Williamson illustration, one that sums up everything that was great about his work.
I favorite this because I want to be always reminded of Williamson's work. I haven't seen much, but most I have seen has been Flash Gordon. Very few seem to be as good as he was.
Great!Al Williamson is one of my favorite artists of the "gold age"... I started copying his ink, the same line of Frazetta and Estebam Maroto, very artistic and refined trace!
