For those of you who have asked for a comparison shot........

Nnte; I KNOW the tanks are a mix of Russian and German. It's a COMIC BOOK cover! And if history serves, the Germans DID fight the Russians in WWII (rather poorly, too).

I really have to take exception with the remarks to the effect that Jusko's interpretation is superior to the original, except in so far as it caters more to modern taste. While agreeing about the quality of Jusko's interpretation I prefer the ease with which the devil-may-care Superman of the original dispatches the tank. That is the essence of the Golden-age Superman.

About being called on "errors" by the "experts"; more grace, less defensiveness. I like what a mystery writer--I forget who-- once wrote about this. His view was do all the research you want, there is one expert out there who will catch you in an error. Count on it. Thank him for the correction and move on.

Thanks for the sagely wisdom, but if you were familiar with me or my work for any period of time you'd be able to discern defensiveness from tongue in cheek humor, as everyone else has.

You can tell the original artist used a model posing in a classic body building pose. This is not to say I don't appreciate the original art, but your drawing is so much more dynamic and fluid.

The crumpled effect on the tank as it responds to the massive punch, the body language and follow thru of Super Man's punch and the clarity of details.

Of course, the original artist did not have the printing technology that we have today, so the amount of detail in your version would have been lost to a large degree given the old printing methods (which I learned in high school in 1985...).

The softness of light to dark on the farthest away tank really shows your skill as well. :)

How did you do it, Joe? Digitally painting a full drawing? Inked? Acrylic? I'm really liking the modeling and the palette.

Love the foxing and distressed work on the edges. Yours looks more real than the original.

I enjoy this due to how the comparison shows how stretch can give more dynamism to
a figure and how proper rendering can give depth. Great job.

I love the idea when you lay it out like this.

Though i will not defend the monstrosities committed by the german army during WWII, i will take issue with your claim than the germans fought rather poorly against the russians in WWII. the german army was perhaps the worlds most effective fighting force in the conflict as evidenced by the technology employed as well as the casualty to kill ratio, the russians beat them at great cost. the numerous military blunders (like Stalingrad) were more the result of Hitler's zeal to score propaganda victories and the mismanagement of his forces than to the incompetence of his armies. i am thankful the allies won as we would likely live in a far different world today (Himmler would have plunged us into another dark age with his esoteric, occultist nonsense) where all people who were not of the Aryian bloodline would likely face eventual annihilation (though the adoption of the japanese as "honorary members" always struck me as humorous).

nevertheless, the art is superb. stunning work.
