3D MODELING PROGRAM QUESTION

Tue Nov 3, 2009, 7:04 PM
My girlfriend's son is graduating HS this year and plans to major in 3D modeling and game design in college. He's been using the programs they have at school (no, I don't know which) but I want to get him off on the right foot to give him a head start before he gets there. Problem is I don't know anything about this. What programs are considered the industry standards (Daz, etc)? Any help from those in the biz as to what I should buy would be GREATLY appreciated! THANKS IN ADVANCE FOR YOUR TIME!!!!

UPDATE: Apparently he's got a year in on 3Dsmax. I told him to set up page so he can pick your brains. When he does I'll introduce him. THANKS to everyone who responded (in such incredible depth)! Really means a lot to me!

******PLEASE READ******

I'm constantly getting really involved painting lesson questions. While I would love answer every one in detail I just can't. :-( I posted a very detailed FAQ journal [link] that covers a lot of questions and links to a VERY detailed step by step tutorial. PLEASE refer to that as I just cannot give one on one lessons on deviantART. Thank you all so much for your amazing interest in and appreciation of my work!

Hi, Joe!
I was looking at your studio pictures and wondering: What are your favourite and/or most useful books on your personal library?
:iconjoejusko:
That's tough. They're ALL valuable but probably the painting instructional books. ALWAYS something more to learn!
:iconfskn:
Painting techniques? One in particular that you recommend for the beginner and (also) for the advanced?
(i guess it would be easier to find those in between, the intermediate level)

Thanks.
:iconjoejusko:
I can't recommend books for you. You need to go to a book or art store and find ones that you think will help YOU.

hi. huge fan of your work. been a fan ever since your first work for Ghost Rider.
i love how you are posting previews of your works in progress.
i was wondering if you've ever posted videos of yourself painting on youtube.
i've always found it to be a treat to watch an artist at work.

The DVD is great! A must have for any fan of Joe's work. You can learn alot about how Joe does his magic. I have bought it twice (because I dropped the 1st one and it got a big scratch on it) Two main things I learned were ONE:I have a long way to go before I ever get close to painting like Joe. & TWO:If you want Jusko to paint it, GIVE HIM A LION!

THANKS!!!! There IS a DVD available. Check my back journals for info!
